Product Description

Sterile TC-treated polystyrene roller bottles for large-scale adherent cell culture. Available in 2L and 5L formats with smooth or pleated surface options and plug or vent cap configurations โ€” designed for use on standard roller bottle apparatus for high-yield cell expansion, virus production, and large-scale biologics manufacturing.

The 2L roller bottles feature one-piece polystyrene construction โ€” eliminating weld seams and joints that can create contamination sites or structural weak points. The pleated surface option increases effective growth area by approximately double compared to smooth surface โ€” delivering significantly higher cell yield per bottle without increasing footprint on the roller apparatus.

The 5L roller bottle is constructed in two pieces to accommodate the manufacturing requirements of larger volume formats, and is compatible with standard roller drum apparatus. All bottles are certified DNase/RNase- and endotoxin-free and supplied sterile in 2-bottle bags.

Key Features & Benefits
  • TC-treated polystyrene surface โ€” tissue culture treated inner surface for reliable adherent cell attachment and uniform monolayer formation during roller culture
  • Pleated surface option (2L) โ€” internal pleating approximately doubles the effective growth surface area compared to smooth surface โ€” maximizing cell yield per bottle without additional roller apparatus positions
  • One-piece construction (2L) โ€” seamless single-piece polystyrene manufacturing eliminates weld seams and joints that can harbor contamination or create structural weak points
  • 0.22 ยตm vent cap option โ€” hydrophobic membrane allows continuous passive gas exchange during rolling without opening the cap โ€” reducing contamination risk and simplifying high-throughput workflows
  • Plug cap option โ€” fully sealed closure for standard roller culture protocols requiring periodic cap venting
  • Compatible with standard roller apparatus โ€” 2L and 5L formats fit standard roller bottle drum systems
  • 2L and 5L formats โ€” scale from mid-volume to large-volume production within the same product range
  • Sterile โ€” gamma irradiated, dose verification per ISO 11137, SAL 10โปโถ
  • DNase/RNase, Endotoxin, Human DNA, ATP, and Pyrogen-free โ€” certified for sensitive cell culture and biologics production
  • Supplied 2 bottles per bag โ€” convenient paired packaging for aseptic handling
โš ๏ธ Not autoclavable โ€” single-use only. All bottles are pre-sterilized by gamma irradiation. Do not exceed recommended working volume โ€” overfilling reduces gas exchange and monolayer formation quality during rolling.

Storage & Handling
  • Store in original packaging in a clean, dry environment away from direct sunlight and UV exposure
  • Maintain storage temperature between 15ยฐC and 30ยฐC (59ยฐF โ€“ 86ยฐF)
  • Keep away from excessive humidity
  • Do not use bottles from damaged or previously opened packaging
  • Open packaging and seed aseptically inside a biosafety cabinet or laminar flow hood
  • Do not fill above the recommended working volume โ€” overfilling reduces gas exchange and monolayer formation quality during rolling
  • Ensure cap is fully and securely tightened before placing on roller apparatus
  • Set roller apparatus speed per your validated protocol โ€” typically 0.3โ€“1.0 rpm for standard mammalian cell culture
  • Inspect bottles for cracks or damage before seeding โ€” do not use damaged bottles
  • Single-use only โ€” do not reuse between culture runs
  • Dispose of used bottles in accordance with your institution's biosafety waste disposal guidelines
โš ๏ธ Not autoclavable โ€” single-use only. Do not exceed recommended working volume. Ensure roller apparatus speed is appropriate for your cell line โ€” excessive speed can damage monolayers and reduce yield.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the advantage of the pleated surface over smooth?
The pleated inner surface increases the effective growth area by approximately double compared to a smooth surface โ€” allowing significantly more cells to be cultured per bottle in the same roller apparatus position. This makes pleated bottles ideal for applications requiring maximum cell yield where roller apparatus capacity or incubator space is limited. The working volume, roller speed, and seeding density protocols are the same as smooth bottles โ€” you gain more cells without changing your workflow.
What is the difference between one-piece and two-piece construction?
The 2L roller bottles are manufactured as a single piece of polystyrene โ€” no weld seams or joints. This eliminates potential contamination sites and structural weak points at join locations. The 5L roller bottle is manufactured in two pieces due to the practical constraints of producing larger volume polystyrene bottles โ€” this is standard industry practice for roller bottles at this volume and does not affect performance when handled correctly. Inspect the seal between pieces before use and do not use bottles showing any sign of seal compromise.
When should I use a vent cap vs a plug cap?
The vent cap with its 0.22 ยตm hydrophobic membrane allows continuous passive gas exchange during rolling without opening the bottle โ€” reducing contamination risk, particularly in high-throughput multi-bottle workflows. It is the preferred choice for standard mammalian cell culture in COโ‚‚ incubators with roller apparatus. The plug cap is suitable for protocols where the cap is periodically loosened for gas exchange per SOP, or for applications where a fully sealed vessel is required during transport or specific process steps.
What roller apparatus speed should I use?
Standard mammalian cell roller culture is typically performed at 0.3โ€“1.0 rpm. Lower speeds (0.3โ€“0.5 rpm) are generally used during cell attachment in the first 24 hours after seeding. Higher speeds (0.5โ€“1.0 rpm) support better nutrient and gas exchange during active growth. Follow your facility's validated protocol for your specific cell line โ€” excessive speed can damage the monolayer and reduce yield.
Are Certificates of Analysis available?
Yes โ€” Certificates of Analysis (COA) are available upon request for all roller bottles. Each lot is tested and certified RNase-, DNase-, Endotoxin-, Human DNA-, ATP-, and Pyrogen-free, manufactured under ISO 13485, and meets USP Class VI biocompatibility requirements.
