Product Description

Hard-frame 384-well PCR plates with polycarbonate frame and polypropylene wells โ€” engineered for high-throughput qPCR, thermal cycling, robotic automation, and heat sealing. The two-component hard-frame design combines a dimensionally stable polycarbonate frame with chemically inert polypropylene wells, delivering the thermal resistance and rigidity needed for demanding automation workflows while maintaining the sample compatibility of PP well surfaces.

Available in single cut corner (one orientation notch at A24) for standard ABI instrument compatibility, and double cut corner (two notches at A24 and P24) for broader compatibility with ABI and Lightcycler instruments. Available in clear and white base color with clear or white well color. All variants feature black print alphanumeric markings on the plate frame. 40 ยตL per well. Non-sterile. Certified DNase/RNase-free and endotoxin-free. 10 plates per box, 100 plates per case.

Two-Component Hard-Frame Construction
Frame Material
Polycarbonate (PC) Frame
Dimensionally stable at high temperatures โ€” resists warping, shrinking, and distortion during thermal cycling and heat sealing. Provides rigid support for robotic grippers and plate handlers.
Well Material
Polypropylene (PP) Wells
Chemically inert PP well surfaces maintain sample integrity. Ultra-thin well walls ensure optimal heat transfer for consistent thermal cycling. Raised rims for secure sealing.
Cut Corner Options
Cut Corner
Single Cut Corner
One orientation notch at the A24 position โ€” prevents incorrect plate loading and fits ABI thermal cyclers, sequencers, and most standard 384-well compatible instruments.
Cut Corner
Double Cut Corner
Two orientation notches at A24 and P24 โ€” broader instrument compatibility including ABI and Lightcycler thermal cyclers and sequencers. Preferred for labs using multiple instrument platforms.
Applications
High-Throughput qPCR Gene Expression SNP Genotyping Copy Number Variation Pathogen Detection Drug Discovery Screening Robotic Automation

Storage & Handling
  • Store in original packaging in a clean, dry environment away from direct sunlight and UV exposure
  • Maintain storage temperature between 15ยฐC and 30ยฐC prior to use
  • Handle plates by the edges โ€” avoid contaminating well surfaces with skin oils and nucleases
  • Use powder-free gloves when handling plates for sensitive nucleic acid applications
  • Verify cut corner orientation matches your instrument's plate loading requirements before use
  • Use a 384-well compatible multichannel pipette or automated liquid handler for sample loading โ€” manual pipetting of 384-well plates is not recommended
  • Seal plates immediately after sample loading to prevent evaporation of the small 40 ยตL reaction volumes
  • Centrifuge briefly at low speed after sealing to collect sample at the well base and remove air bubbles
  • Verify plate sits flat in the thermal cycler block โ€” the rigid PC frame should ensure consistent plate seating
  • Dispose of used plates per your institution's biosafety and waste disposal guidelines
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the advantage of the hard-frame PC/PP construction over single-component polypropylene plates?
Single-component polypropylene 384-well plates can warp, shrink, and distort during repeated high-temperature thermal cycling and heat sealing โ€” particularly problematic in robotic automation where precise dimensional geometry is critical for gripper handling and plate positioning. The polycarbonate frame maintains dimensional stability at high temperatures, preventing the warping that causes misalignment, failed seals, and robotic handling errors. The PP wells are retained for sample contact โ€” maintaining chemical inertness and compatibility with sensitive nucleic acid applications.
What is the difference between single and double cut corner?
The cut corner is a physical orientation notch that prevents incorrect plate loading. A single cut corner has one notch at the A24 position โ€” the standard for most ABI thermal cyclers and sequencers. A double cut corner has two notches at both A24 and P24 positions โ€” designed for broader compatibility with ABI and Lightcycler instruments. If your lab uses multiple instrument platforms, the double cut corner version provides more flexibility without sacrificing compatibility with either system.
When should I choose clear vs white wells or base?
Clear wells are the standard choice for most qPCR applications and are compatible with SYBR Green and probe-based detection. White wells reflect emitted fluorescence toward the detector โ€” improving signal sensitivity in low-template applications. The base color (clear or white PC frame) affects the overall plate appearance and can influence bottom-read fluorescence detection. White base plates are preferred when maximum fluorescence reflection throughout the plate is desired. Verify your instrument's recommended plate configuration before selecting.
Can these plates be used with robotic liquid handlers?
Yes โ€” the rigid polycarbonate frame is specifically engineered for robotic automation. The dimensional stability of the PC frame ensures consistent plate geometry for reliable robotic gripper handling, plate transport, and positioning in automated liquid handling systems. The standard SBS/ANSI 384-well footprint ensures compatibility with most laboratory automation platforms.
Are Certificates of Analysis available?
Yes โ€” Certificates of Analysis (COA) are available upon request. Each lot is certified DNase/RNase-free and endotoxin-free. Contact us with your lot number for documentation.
